My Most Anticipated Free Comic Book Day Pickups
I know it's more than a week away, but the high-holy day of comics is nigh!
Sometimes, I have to enjoy Free Comic Book Day from the periphery, because it usually falls on top of our state speech tournament. However, this year that is not a concern! My LCS is amazing, because they’ll guarantee the #FCBD titles I add to my pull list by the time FOC comes around. However, if you are limited to the number of books you can pick up, here are my TOP PICKS for next Saturday!
1. Fishflies (Image Comics)
Anytime I see Jeff Lemire’s name, its an instabuy/grab. A preview of what’s next from his twisted world, has me on the edge of my seat!
2. I Am Stan (Ten Speed Press)
Of course, I’m also going to grab anything Stan Lee related, regardless of all of the Stan Lee related memorabilia I collect, if this is the first OGN biography of Stan the Man, I’m sold.
3. Spider Man/Venom FCBD (Marvel)
The end of the symbiotes?!?!?!?!?! I’ve enjoyed this FCBD staple each year. Not only do you get a direction on Marvel’s best selling title, but you also get a preview of the upcoming event(s) of the summer!
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I’m still stuck in my childhood love of the TMNT. If you’ve seen any pictures of my room, or any of my youtube content, you know that Turtles are my world. I’ve been enjoying both the ongoing run, in addition to the Saturday Morning Adventures + the whole world of the Last Ronin. This is both guaranteed fun, and something great to share with my kiddos!
5. Ranger Academy (Boom! Studios)
Again, this title pulls to both my nostalgic heart, as well as sharing something with my kids are in love with. Promising to show both the future of the MMPR writ-large as well as a jumping on point to the ongoing content, this is definitely for any ranger-obsessed folx like myself!
Tomorrow, you’ll get a sense of the books I’m grabbing “for my kids” which I know I’ll love, but are more oriented to the youngest readers!
Nice. For me, I really want to nab the Viz Rooster Fighter/Choijin X and Animal Castle from Ablaze. Maybe The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers from Fanatgraphics, too, as I always felt like I should read some of that, it being the underground comix classic that it is.
