My Top 5 Anticipated Marvel Titles, Events, and/or Collections from May's Previews.
Some of these Disney 100 Covers are AMAZING!!!!!
While I don’t write about Marvel all that often, I do read a lot of different Marvel titles (both physically and playing catch-up on the app). I figured I should start sharing books from the “big two” I’m also excited about in addition to all of my indies I love so very much! So, based on the books showcased in the May 2023 Marvel Previews, here are the top 5 books etc. I’m excited to dive into!
5. Star Wars Dark Droids #1
By: Charles Soule and Luke Ross
Releases: August 2, 2023
Do I read a lot of Star Wars comics? Nope! Do I read any of the CURRENT Star Wars comics? Also nope! Why do I want to pick this up? Simple. I like droids! I have also read some of Soule’s Star Wars issues, and I like them. Will I be overwhelmed diving into this event? Do you have suggestions on were I should start to be caught up by August? Let me know in the comments!
4. X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1
By: Gerry Duggan, R. B. Silva, Luciano Vecchio
Releases: July 26, 2023
I absolutely LOVE the X-Men. My biggest challenge has been keeping up with the 69420 titles which come out each month, which is why I ended up dropping nearly all of the X-men titles from my pull list last fall, because I was just reading everything else, and either trade or digital waiting everything else. However, the Hellfire Gala is always batshit crazy, and sometimes has the potential to cross the streams with references popping up in other non X-related books. So, I will be trying my quickest to get caught up by the end of July for the next “red wedding” style event to rock the world of Krakoa and beyond!
3. Thor Annual #1
By: Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Ibraim Roberson
Releases: July 5, 2023
Look, this solicit had me at M.O.D.O.K. one of my absolute favorite characters in the entirety of the MCU. Why? His agenda is always straightforward, but he always has an excellent and elaborate methodology for achieving his goals! I’m excited to see what happens when M.O.D.O.K. takes over nine of the Ten Realms, and how Thor has to react to eliminate such a potent threat!
2. Spider-Gwen TPB
By: Seanan McGuire, Tim Eldred
Releases: August 16, 2023
I have absolutely loved all things Ghost Spider/Spider-Gwen. Not only do I love her use as a character, but I’ve absolutely loved the expanded love she’s gotten because of all things Spider-Verse. This TPB collects: SPIDER-GEDDON: GHOST-SPIDER VIDEO COMIC and SPIDER-GWEN: GHOST-SPIDER #1-10. I’m excited to not have to dirty up my single issues with my (or my childrens’) grubby little hands, and read this over and over again in trade!
1. Moon Knight City of the Dead #1
By: David Pepose and Marcelo Ferreira
Releases: July 19, 2023
There are two words to describe why I’m amped for this: David Pepose. I have loved everything that David has put together from his smallest of Kickstarter projects to his thrilling run on Savage Avengers! I can’t wait to see how David and the rest of the creative team lays treatment to one of my newly favorite characters, especially on the heels of an EPIC McKay run!
What thoughts do you have? Is there anything I should dive into from the May previews from Marvel? Let me know!
